Turn On the Community Log

Turn on the Community Log for your community, set its categories, and see which roles can use it.

The Community Log is a shared log for your community. Staff submit an entry, choose its category and follow the entry until it is resolved. The Community Log is off until an Admin turns it on in the community settings.

In the app, the settings card and the navigation item of the Community Log show the name Reporting.

Before you start

To change the community settings, your role needs Community settings set to Add & edit. By default, only the Admin role has it.

Turn on the Community Log

1. Select Settings in the navigation.

2. Select the Settings tab, next to Profile.

3. Find the Reporting card.

4. Turn on the first switch of the card. Two more rows show: Allow 'Other' category and Incident categories.

5. Select Save at the bottom of the page. The message "Settings updated successfully" shows.

To undo your changes before you save, select Discard. If you leave the page before you save, the Unsaved Changes dialog opens. Select Save & Leave to keep your changes, or Stay & Edit to go back.

Set the categories

Each entry in the Community Log has a category, such as Maintenance. Your community chooses the categories.

1. In the Reporting card, select Manage Categories. The Manage Incident Categories dialog opens.

2. To add a category, type its name in the New category... field. If the category is about a vehicle, select Vehicle Related. Then select +, or press Enter.

3. To change a category to a vehicle category, or back, select Vehicle on its row.

4. To change the order of the list, drag a row up or down.

5. To remove a category, select the trash icon on its row, then select Delete.

6. Select Save Categories.

7. Select Save at the bottom of the settings page.

Save Categories changes only the settings page. MyWatchtower keeps the new categories when you select Save on the page.

On a phone, select Add New Category to add a category. To change or remove a category, tap its row.

A vehicle category adds a License Plate field to the entry form.

Turn on Allow 'Other' category to let staff choose Other when no category fits. If your community has no categories, the entry form shows a default list of categories, and it always shows Other.

Who can use the Community Log

When the Community Log is on, the Reporting item shows in the navigation. It has three tabs: Dashboard, Incidents and Report History. The permissions of each role decide what a person sees:

  • Incident documentation set to View shows the Reporting item, the Dashboard tab and the Incidents tab.
  • Incident documentation set to Add & edit shows the New Incident button.
  • Reported incidents set to View shows the Report History tab. Set to Add & edit, it shows the Generate Report button.

By default, the Admin, Supervisor and Gate Attendant roles have these permissions. Residents do not.

The switch and the permissions work together. While the switch is off, nobody sees the Reporting item. While it is on, a role with no permission does not see it.

Need help?

If you do not see the Settings tab, your role cannot change the community settings. Ask your community Admin.
