Clone a Role

Every role on the Roles page has a Clone button. Cloning copies the role's permission choices into a new role you can adjust, which is usually faster — and less error-prone — than setting every category card by hand.

Both community (staff) roles and property roles can be cloned.

When cloning beats building from scratch

Clone when an existing role is already close to what you need. For example, if you want a role that works like Gate Attendant but with one extra area visible, clone Gate Attendant and change just that card, rather than rebuilding the rest and hoping you matched it.

Steps

• Step 1: Go to Settings > Roles. The tab is visible only if your role can add and edit Users.
• Step 2: Find the role closest to what you need and select Clone.
• Step 3: Adjust the copy's category cards. The grant ceiling still applies — you can only grant permissions you yourself hold.
• Step 4: Rename the copy so its purpose is obvious. A cloned role is a non-default role, so it can be renamed freely.

What carries over

The clone starts with the same permission choices as the original. It is a separate role from that point on — editing the clone does not change the original, and editing the original does not change the clone. Nobody holds the new role until you assign it.

After cloning

New roles join at the bottom of the role hierarchy; move the clone up if it belongs higher — see "Reorder the Role Hierarchy". Assign it from the user list as usual — see "Managing Community Users and Residents".
