Create a Brivo Group

Create a Brivo Group

On Brivo communities, access comes from groups: a person joins a group, and the group grants its doors on a schedule. This guide covers creating one group and setting it up. For the full access model — including HID's access levels and shared schedules — see "Groups, Schedules, and Access Levels".

Before you start

Every access point you grant needs a schedule. If you don't have a suitable one yet, create it first — see "Create an Access Schedule".

Create the group

1. Open Access > Groups ("Organize users and access points into groups"). 2. Click Create Group. 3. Enter a Group Name (required) and an optional Description, and save.

Add members

Open the group and use the Users panel:

Note that on Brivo, group membership belongs to the person: when a credential is created or reassigned, the group selection pre-fills from the holder's memberships, and clearing a group there removes that membership from all of the person's credentials — see "Create a Credential" and "Assign or Reassign a Credential".

Grant access points

Still on the group's page, use the Access Points panel:

No manual push

Grants and membership changes are queued and delivered to your hardware automatically — there is no manual push step. Recent changes may take a short while to land.

Deleting a group

Deletion is reached from the bin icon on the group's list row, with its own confirmation. Two rules to know:

If a schedule delete is being refused because this group still uses it, remove the grant here first — see "Create an Access Schedule" for how the blocked-delete dialog works.

Need Help?

If the Groups tab is missing, your community may use HID rather than Brivo (see "Create an HID Access Level"), or your role may lack the needed permission — check with your community Admin, or submit a help desk ticket.
