How to Add and Manage Vehicles in MyWatchtower
Vehicle registration links cars, trucks, and other vehicles to the people at your property. Accurate vehicle information lets gate staff — and automated license plate readers, where your community uses them — verify who is entering. This guide covers adding vehicles, keeping details current, and removing old ones.
1 — Open the Vehicles tab
- Step 1: Sign in and open your Property page.
- Step 2: Select the Vehicles tab. You'll see all vehicles currently associated with your property.
2 — Add a new vehicle
Vehicle creation runs through the creation wizard as a single Vehicle Details step.
- Step 1: Select Add Vehicle.
- Step 2: Fill out the vehicle information — every field is required:
- Year, Make, and Model — the full description (for example, 2022 Toyota Camry) helps gate staff identify the vehicle at a glance.
- Color.
- State — the state that issued the plate.
- License Plate — enter the full plate exactly as issued. Accurate plates are essential for plate readers to recognize the vehicle.
- Step 3: Under Associate to (optional), choose who the vehicle belongs to — a Resident, Guest, or Vendor (staff can also assign to a User) — and pick the person from the search. Leave it as None to add the vehicle unassigned.
- Step 4: Select Create. The vehicle appears in your list and can be matched at the gate.
3 — Vehicle credentials
Some communities issue physical or digital credentials — such as windshield tags or barcodes — that open gates automatically. Credentials are created by community staff through the credential wizard, which lets them pick the holder and attach a vehicle; a holder's registered vehicle is suggested automatically. If your community uses vehicle credentials, contact your management office to have one issued — registering the vehicle first makes that quick.
4 — Editing or deleting vehicles
- Editing — open the vehicle from the list to update its details (for example, a new license plate or a repaint), then save. Update plates promptly so plate readers keep recognizing the vehicle.
- Deleting — if you sell or dispose of a vehicle, select the trash can icon next to it and confirm. The vehicle is removed from your property's list.
Where vehicle information shows up
Registered vehicles do more than open gates:
- Gate staff see linked vehicle details when verifying guests and vendors.
- Entry records can include the vehicle and plate that came through, so your entry log shows which vehicle was used.
- When adding a guest or vendor, you can link one of your registered vehicles with Associate Vehicle (Optional).
Keeping your vehicle list current helps your community's access control work smoothly — a minute spent updating a plate saves a stop at the gate later.
