Property Roles Explained

Community (staff) roles decide what someone can do across the community; property roles decide what a person can do at their own property. Every person attached to a property holds one.

The default property roles

Like staff roles, property roles are built from plain-language category cards on the Settings > Roles page, so your community can adjust what each grants — and clone one as a starting point for a new property role (see "Clone a Role").

What each typically does

Where Tenant went

The former Tenant role has been retired. Everyone who held it was converted to Resident — no action is needed, and nothing was lost in the conversion beyond the name.

The property hierarchy

Property roles form a ranked list you can reorder, just like staff roles, with two fixed rules:

Assigning property roles

You pick a property role when creating a resident user (Select Property, then choose Owner, Manager, or Resident) and can change it later with Property Action > Update Property Role in the Edit User dialog — see "Managing Community Users and Residents".

For the full guide to both role hierarchies, see "Managing Roles and Permissions".
