Publish a News Post
News posts are how your community shares announcements, meeting summaries, policy changes and project updates. This article covers the single task of taking a post from blank page to published — and updating it afterwards. For the posts dashboard, filtering, and module overview, see the News & Updates (aka blog) article.
Before You Begin
You need a role with posts permissions. Open the Community Admin Center and use the News & Updates card to reach the posts dashboard.
Creating the Post
- Step 1: Click New Post.
- Step 2: Enter a title. It appears on the post card, the post page, and anywhere the post is highlighted, so keep it clear and specific.
- Step 3: Add a featured image with the Choose Image button on the post form. This image becomes the post's thumbnail on the dashboard and in post listings. (Images placed inside the body are handled separately, in the editor.)
- Step 4: Write the body in Horizon's content editor — headings, lists, links, images, and embedded YouTube video are all supported. See Using the Content Editor for the toolbar and insert tools.
- Step 5: Assign the post to a category — for example Announcements, Social, or Development. Categories help residents filter for the content they care about.
- Step 6: Choose the post's status and save:
- Public — visible to everyone.
- Private — visible only to administrators. Use this to save a draft you're still working on, or for internal updates.
Where Residents See It
Published (Public) posts appear in the community's news listing, and each post has its own page. Recent posts are also highlighted on the community homepage, so a fresh public post gets immediate visibility.
Editing After Publishing
Posts can be edited at any time after publication:
- Find the post on the posts dashboard — each card shows its thumbnail, title, category, publication date and status, with quick actions to edit, toggle visibility, and delete. Use the Filter button to narrow by category, status or date if the post is older.
- When you change important information in an already-published post, note the revision date in the body so readers know it has been updated.
- Need to pull a post back temporarily? Toggle it to Private instead of deleting it — you can make it public again later.
Tips
- Draft privately, publish deliberately: Compose with Private status, review, then flip to Public when it's ready.
- Link supporting material: Reference documents from the Document Library and point readers to the relevant calendar entry so everything about an announcement is one click away.
- Mind your images: Make sure images comply with privacy guidelines and don't reveal personal information.
