Send a Community Newsletter
Horizon's built-in newsletter emails your news straight to residents who have subscribed. This article covers the admin task end to end: composing, attaching files, previewing, sending, and confirming afterwards who received it. For the subscriber experience — signing up, confirming, unsubscribing — see the Community Newsletter article.
Before You Begin
- The newsletter is available on communities that have it enabled. If your site doesn't offer it, ask JEKA Support about enabling it.
- You need a role with newsletter permissions. Open the Community Admin Center and use the Manage Newsletter card.
Who Will Receive It
Your newsletter goes to all confirmed subscribers. Horizon uses double opt-in: a resident signs up on the Newsletter page with an email address (phone is optional), agrees to the terms, and then must follow the link in a confirmation email before the subscription becomes active. Every newsletter you send automatically includes an unsubscribe link, and anyone who unsubscribes can re-subscribe later.
Composing and Sending
- Step 1: Open Manage Newsletter from the Community Admin Center.
- Step 2: Compose your newsletter in the editor — the same content editor used for posts and pages, minus YouTube embeds (embedded video doesn't work in email). Markdown shortcuts work as you type. See Using the Content Editor for the toolbar.
- Step 3: Switch to the Preview tab to see the message approximately as subscribers will receive it, and switch back to the Editor tab to keep refining. Your content is converted into a formatted email, and Horizon adds the community header and footer — including the unsubscribe link — automatically, so you only write the body.
- Step 4: Attach files if you want to include documents such as meeting minutes or notices.
- Step 5: Send. The newsletter goes out by email to all confirmed subscribers.
Give the newsletter a final read in Preview before sending — once it's sent, it's in inboxes.
Reviewing the Send History
The newsletter history lists everything your community has sent, with recipient counts:
- Search past sends by date or title.
- Open the recipients view on any send to see exactly who received it — useful when a resident asks whether a notice reached them.
Tips
- Lead with the essentials: Email is skimmed. Put dates, deadlines and calls to action near the top, and link to a page or post for the full detail.
- Attach rather than paste: Long documents read better as attachments than as email body text.
- Cross-post: A newsletter reaches subscribers' inboxes; pair it with a post (see Publish a News Post) so the same information is on the website for everyone else.
