What Is Social Sign-On and How Do I Use It in Horizon?
Social sign-on lets you use an account you already have with an identity provider — instead of creating and remembering a separate password for your Horizon community website. This article explains what social sign-on is and how it fits into joining, signing up for, and signing in to your community's site.
What Is Social Sign-On?
With social sign-on, you register and sign in using an existing account from an identity provider. JEKA Software supports social sign-on from identity providers including Google and Facebook; the options offered on your community's site may vary with its configuration. Only your email address is shared with the site when you use this method.
Benefits:
- One less password to manage: You don't create or remember a separate password for the community site.
- Familiar sign-in: You approve the sign-in with a provider you already use.
Joining Your Community with an Invite Code
Horizon communities gate registration behind an invite code:
- Step 1: Open your community site's join page and enter your invite code, accepting the community and platform terms.
- Step 2: Once the code is verified, you continue to sign-up. You can register with an email address and password, or choose a social provider — the join flow carries your choice through to registration.
If you don't have an invite code, contact your community's management office or website administrator.
Signing Up with a Social Provider
On the sign-up page, choose the social provider option instead of entering an email address and password. You'll be asked to approve the connection with that provider, and your Horizon account is associated with the email address the provider shares.
If you prefer, you can always register with an email address and password instead — social sign-on is optional.
Signing In
On return visits, open your community's website, choose Sign In, and use the same method you registered with — your email address and password, or your social provider. Using the same provider each time ensures you reach the same account.
Tips
- Stay consistent: Pick one sign-in method and stick with it, so your membership, permissions and history stay on a single account.
- Keep the provider account healthy: Because your community sign-in relies on your provider account, keep that account's email address current and its credentials strong.
- If social sign-on isn't offered: Your community's configuration may not include a provider you use. Register with your email address and a password instead — see the Account Security article for password guidance and additional sign-in safeguards.
Note that Horizon sign-in is separate from your MyWatchtower app login — they are different products with their own accounts, even if your community uses both.
