Add a Resident to Your Property

Everyone who lives at your property should be on its resident list — it's how gate staff recognize your household. This guide covers adding a person, choosing whether they get an account, and what role to give them.

The Add Resident flow

Not sure which to pick? Give an account to anyone who will manage guests, vehicles, or entry codes, or who should receive notifications; a name-only resident record fits children and household members who will never use the app. A resident can always create an account later and request access to the property. See *Understanding the Difference Between Users and Residents*.

Property roles at a glance

Users at a property hold one of these roles (your community can rename them or add custom ones):

Only Owners and Managers can change who has access to the property in MyWatchtower.

One account per person

Give each household member their own account rather than sharing one login. Every account has its own wallet of entry QR codes and PIN codes, its own notification settings, and its own history — sharing an account muddles all three and means shared credentials can't be revoked for one person without cutting off everyone.

Residents vs. permanent guests

Not everyone who comes through your gate regularly lives with you. For a frequent visitor who isn't an occupant — extended family, a caregiver, a cleaner — add them as a permanent guest (or a permanent vendor) instead of a resident: a guest record can carry its own entry schedule, entry QR code, or kiosk PIN, and you can remove it the moment the arrangement ends. Reserve resident records for people who actually live at the property. See *How to Add Guests in Watchtower*.
