Community Announcements and the Message of the Day

This guide is for community staff and Admins. MyWatchtower gives you two ways to reach the whole community: a persistent dashboard banner (the Message of the Day) and one-time mass sends (Announcements). They live on different Settings tabs and behave very differently.

Message of the Day (Settings > Profile)

The Message of the Day lives on the Profile tab under Settings, in the "Message of the Day" section — for the steps, see Set the Message of the Day.

The message appears as a banner on community members' dashboards — resident and staff views alike — and stays there "until you disable or change it." Use it for standing notices: office hours, ongoing roadwork, pool season dates.

Mass Announcements (Settings > Announcements)

The Announcements tab opens Mass Announcements ("Send emails and push notifications to your community"), with two tabs: New Announcement and Announcement History. Unlike the Message of the Day, an announcement is a one-shot send — it goes out immediately and cannot be recalled. For composing, channels, and the send confirmation, see Send a Mass Announcement.

Announcement History

The Announcement History tab keeps the record of every past send — the per-recipient detail is covered in Send a Mass Announcement.

Need Help?

If either tab is missing, your role may lack the community-settings or announcements permission — ask your community Admin, or submit a help desk ticket.
