Community Admin Center
The Community Admin Center is the home base for everyone who manages a Horizon community website. It gathers all of Horizon's administrative tools into a single dashboard of cards, so you never have to hunt through menus to find the module you need. This article orients new administrators to the hub; each card's module has its own knowledge base article with step-by-step guidance.
Opening the Admin Center
- Step 1: Sign in to your community's website with an account that has administrative permissions.
- Step 2: Click the gear icon in the navigation bar. Members without administrative permissions see Your Profile; administrators are taken directly to the Community Admin Center.
The Admin Cards
Each card opens one management tool. The full set is:
- Manage Website Pages — create, edit, and organize the custom pages of your community's website, including page visibility. See the Manage Website Pages article.
- User Management — the roster of everyone with portal access: create accounts, assign roles, and manage roles and permissions. See the User Management Module article.
- Document Library — organize the community's files into folders, upload documents, and manage visibility. See the Document Library article.
- Event Calendar — create, edit, and remove the events residents see on the community calendar. See the Event Calendar article.
- News & Updates — publish and manage community posts and announcements. See the News & Updates (aka blog) article.
- Community Settings — community details, address, site banner, and branding. See the Community Settings article.
- Account Security — your own password and sign-in settings. See the Account Security article.
- Manage Menu — customize the site's navigation menu structure. See the Manage Menu article.
- Manage Newsletter — compose and send the community newsletter and review the send history. See the Community Newsletter article.
Cards Follow Your Permissions
The Admin Center shows each card according to the signed-in administrator's permissions — you only see the tools your role grants. An Editor focused on content might see the pages and posts cards but not user administration, while a full Admin sees everything.
If a card you need is missing, ask a community administrator to review your role and its permissions in the User Management Module. Horizon ships with Admin, Editor and Resident roles by default, and custom roles can grant exactly the modules a person needs.
Tips
- Start from the hub: When you're new to administering the site, open the Admin Center and work through one card at a time with its matching knowledge base article.
- Apply least privilege: Give each helper a role with only the cards their job requires; it keeps the dashboard simpler for them and the site easier to audit.
- Check back after role changes: If your permissions are updated, the set of visible cards changes to match your current role.
